Ecosystems and stocks

30.09.2010 // The marine species, including the living and non-living, construct and interact in complex ecosystems.

These ecosystems provide invaluable resources, and therefore it is significant that the biodiversity is maintained and sustained for the generations to come.

In Norway, the ecosystems are safeguarded by the Marine Resource Act (2008). The Act introduces important principles that seek to protect both species and habitat. In order to understand and protect the ecosystems and stocks, conducting research is imperative.

This section focuses on the complexity of ecosystems, as well as the reasons why Norway applies an ecosystem-based approach in resource management.
