Norway decided with effect from 1 July 2000 to require satellite tracking of all her fishing vessels over 24 meters . Currently a total of 400 Norwegian fishing vessels must have satellite tracking equipment installed on board. This equipment automatically transmits the vessel’s position, course and speed once an hour, 24 hours a day, regardless of where in the world the vessel is located.
